Standing Committee on Water Resources met today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ahmad Atteeq Anwer

Islamabad, 2nd September, 2026; The 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on Water Resources was held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, MNA at 2:00 p.m in Committee Room No.7, 4th Floor, Parliament House, Islamabad. The Hon. Chairman welcomed all the participants.

The Chairman WAPDA briefed the Committee on the vital role of the WAPDA Security Force (WSF) in safeguarding national assets, securing scattered installations, and protecting national and foreign personnel working on WAPDA projects. He highlighted that the proposed WSF Act would provide the Force with the requisite legal authority and operational framework to effectively discharge its responsibilities. The Committee was further informed that the WAPDA Act, 1958 presently contains no statutory provisions regarding the creation, jurisdiction, powers, or functions of the security setup. After a threadbare discussion, the Committee decided to defer consideration of the Bill until its next meeting.
The committee appointed a sub-committee under the convenorship of Mr. Muhammad Idrees “to investigate the non-completion of k-iv project despite huge expenditure incurred”.
The Committee discussed the establishment of the Tarbela Dam Authority for the settlement and rehabilitation of Tarbela Dam affectees, as presented by Mr. Babar Nawaz Khan. After detailed deliberation, the Committee emphasized the need for a clear and legally viable mechanism to address their longstanding concerns and recommended that the Ministry propose an appropriate legal way forward for the effective resolution of the matter.
The following MNA’s namely, Ms. Shamaila Rana, Mr. Muhammad Idrees, Syed Javed Ali Shah Jillani, Ms. Shazia Marri, (On Zoom), Ms. Saba Talpur, Mr. Mian Khan Bugti, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Behan, Syed Waseem Hussain, Mr. Amin Ul Haque (Mover), Mr. Babar Nawaz Khan (Mover), Mian Muhammad Mueen Watto (Federal Minister for Water Resources) besides the officials of the Ministry of Water Resources attended the meeting.
