Protection of forests and large-scale plantation essential to address impacts of climate change, says Sardar Ayaz Sadiq

 

Islamabad, August 17, 2026: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that trees are indispensable for environmental protection, maintaining ecological balance, and ensuring a clean, healthy environment and the survival of life on Earth. Pakistan is facing serious challenges, including climate change, rising temperatures, water scarcity, environmental pollution and floods. To effectively address these challenges, promoting tree plantation and increasing forest cover must be made a national priority. He expressed these views in his message on the occasion of National Plantation Day, observed across the country on August 18 every year.

 

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that trees not only help keep the air clean, provide oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, but also play a vital role in preventing soil erosion, facilitating the absorption of rainwater into the ground, protecting water resources and promoting biodiversity. He said that unchecked deforestation and the reduction of green cover adversely affect the land’s capacity to absorb water, consequently increasing the risk of flooding during heavy rains. He stressed that protecting forests, safeguarding rivers and natural waterways, and undertaking large-scale plantation are essential measures to reduce flood risks and strengthen ecosystems. The Speaker emphasized that plantation is not merely about planting trees; ensuring their proper care, protection and healthy growth is equally important. He urged the public, particularly the youth, to actively participate in plantation campaigns and consider the protection and care of planted saplings a national responsibility.

 

Speaker National Assembly  Sardar Ayaz  Sadiq stressed the need to further strengthen the measures being taken by the government for environmental protection, promotion of forests and mitigation of the impacts of climate change. He said that the success of plantation campaigns requires the federal and provincial governments, local governments, educational institutions, the private sector and civil society to work together through a coordinated and joint strategy. He emphasized that, alongside increasing forest cover, integrated measures are essential to protect existing forests, restore natural waterways and ensure effective water management in order to address the impacts of climate change and secure a safe environment for future generations.

 

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Parliament is committed to legislation aimed at protecting the environment, addressing the impacts of climate change and ensuring the effective and sustainable use of natural resources. He said that environmental protection is not the responsibility of any single institution or government but a collective responsibility of all. Every citizen should play their part by planting more trees, protecting them and keeping the environment clean. He said that a greener Pakistan is the guarantee of a healthy, secure and prosperous future.

 

On the occasion, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his message, said that plantation is an effective means of protecting the environment and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. He said that protecting trees and planting more saplings is a collective responsibility. He added that restoration of forests and protection of the natural environment can help reduce the risks posed by floods and other climate-related disasters. He expressed the resolve that Parliament would continue its efforts to promote environment-friendly initiatives, environmental protection and sustainable development.

موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے اثرات سے نمٹنے کے لیے جنگلات کا تحفظ اور وسیع پیمانے پر شجرکاری ضروری ہے، سردار ایاز صادق

 

اسلام آباد، 17 اگست 2026ء: اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا ہے کہ درخت ماحول کے تحفظ، ماحولیاتی توازن کے قیام اور صاف و صحت مند ماحول اور حیات کی بقاء کے لئے ناگزیر ہے۔ پاکستان کو موسمیاتی تبدیلی، بڑھتے ہوئے درجہ حرارت، پانی کی کمی، ماحولیاتی آلودگی اور سیلاب جیسے سنگین چیلنجز کا سامنا ہے، جن سے مؤثر انداز میں نمٹنے کے لیے شجرکاری کے فروغ اور جنگلات کے رقبے میں اضافے کو قومی ترجیحات میں شامل کرنا وقت کی اہم ضرورت ہے۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے شجرکاری کے قومی دن کے موقع پر اپنے پیغام میں کیا، جو ہر سال 18 اگست کو ملک بھر میں منایا جاتا ہے۔

 

اسپیکر سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ درخت نہ صرف فضا کو صاف رکھنے، آکسیجن کی فراہمی اور کاربن ڈائی آکسائیڈ کو جذب کرنے اور زمین کے کٹاؤ کی روک تھام کیلئے مدد گار ثابت ہوتے ہیں۔بارش کے پانی کو زمین میں جذب کرنے، آبی ذخائر کے تحفظ اور حیاتیاتی تنوع کے فروغ میں بھی اہم کردار ادا کرتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جنگلات کی بے دریغ کٹائی اور سبز رقبے میں کمی سے زمین کی پانی جذب کرنے کی صلاحیت متاثر ہوتی ہے، جس کے نتیجے میں بارشوں دوران سیلاب کے خطرات بڑھ جاتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جنگلات کا تحفظ، دریاؤں اور قدرتی آبی گزرگاہوں کی حفاظت اور بڑے پیمانے پر شجرکاری سیلاب کے خطرات کم کرنے اور ماحولیاتی نظام کو مضبوط بنانے کے لیے اہم اقدامات ہیں۔اسپیکر نے کہا کہ شجرکاری محض درخت لگانے تک محدود نہیں بلکہ ان کی مناسب دیکھ بھال اور نشوونما یقینی بنانا بھی اتنا ہی ضروری ہے۔ انہوں نے عوام بالخصوص نوجوانوں پر زور دیا کہ وہ شجرکاری مہمات میں بھرپور حصہ لیں اور لگائے گئے پودوں کی حفاظت اور دیکھ بھال کو اپنا قومی فریضہ سمجھیں۔

 

اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی نے حکومت کی جانب سے ماحولیاتی تحفظ، جنگلات کے فروغ اور موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے اثرات سے نمٹنے کے لیے اٹھائے جانے والے اقدامات کو مزید مؤثر بنانے کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ شجرکاری مہمات کی کامیابی کے لیے وفاقی و صوبائی حکومتوں، بلدیاتی اداروں، تعلیمی اداروں، نجی شعبے اور سول سوسائٹی کو مربوط اور مشترکہ حکمتِ عملی کے تحت کام کرنا ہوگا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے اثرات سے نمٹنے اور آئندہ نسلوں کے لیے محفوظ ماحول یقینی بنانے کے لیے جنگلات کے رقبے میں اضافے کے ساتھ ساتھ موجودہ جنگلات کے تحفظ، قدرتی آبی گزرگاہوں کی بحالی اور پانی کے مؤثر انتظام کے لیے بھی مربوط اقدامات ناگزیر ہیں۔

 

سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ پارلیمان ماحولیاتی تحفظ، موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے اثرات سے نمٹنے اور قدرتی وسائل کے مؤثر اور پائیدار استعمال کے لیے قانون سازی کرنے کے لیے پرعزم ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ماحولیاتی تحفظ کسی ایک ادارے یا حکومت کی ذمہ داری نہیں بلکہ ہم سب کی اجتماعی ذمہ داری ہے۔ ہر شہری کو زیادہ سے زیادہ درخت لگانے، ان کی حفاظت کرنے اور ماحول کو صاف رکھنے میں اپنا کردار ادا کرنا چاہیے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایک سرسبز پاکستان ہی صحت مند، محفوظ اور روشن مستقبل کی ضمانت ہے۔

 

اس موقع پر ڈپٹی اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سید غلام مصطفیٰ شاہ نے اپنے پیغام میں کہا کہ شجرکاری ماحولیاتی تحفظ اور موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے منفی اثرات سے نمٹنے کا مؤثر ذریعہ ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ درختوں کا تحفظ اور زیادہ سے زیادہ پودے لگانا ہم سب کی مشترکہ ذمہ داری ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جنگلات کی بحالی اور قدرتی ماحول کا تحفظ سیلاب سمیت موسمیاتی آفات کے خطرات کم کرنے میں معاون ثابت ہو سکتا ہے۔ انہوں نے اس عزم کا اظہار کیا کہ پارلیمان ماحول دوست اقدامات، ماحولیاتی تحفظ اور پائیدار ترقی کے فروغ کے لیے اپنی کوششیں جاری رکھے گی۔
