Islamabad; 25th September 2025: A meeting was convened today at the Secretariat of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), Parliament House, Islamabad. The session brought together Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, Dr. Shahida Rehmani; Chairperson of the Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, Dr. Nafisa Shah MNA; MNA Syeda Shehla Raza; and Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council, Dr. Allama Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, to deliberate on strengthening inheritance laws in Pakistan with a view to better protect women’s rights.
The participants discussed ways to harmonize Islamic jurisprudence with Pakistani law to ensure that women consistently receive their rightful share of inheritance without discrimination or coercion. Emphasizing the importance of awareness and capacity-building, the meeting underscored the need to establish accessible complaint mechanisms for women who are denied their due share of inheritance.

Chairman Dr. Allama Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi affirmed that the principles of the Holy Quran and Sunnah must be reflected not merely in theory but also in everyday practice, ensuring that no woman is deprived of her rightful share. Secretary Dr. Shahida Rehmani described the gathering as a vital step toward bridging the gap between legal rights and lived realities. She further called for meaningful reform to safeguard women’s dignity, financial security, and access to justice.
MNAs Dr. Nafisa Shah and Syeda Shehla Raza stressed that reforming inheritance laws is fundamental to advancing gender equality and promoting economic empowerment, particularly for widows, divorced women, and those whose male relatives deny them their lawful shares.
This meeting marked the beginning of a sustained, multi-stakeholder effort to modernize Pakistan’s inheritance framework in a manner faithful to Islamic teachings and responsive to contemporary social and economic needs.
