First Briefing Session of Pakistan - Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG)

Islamabad; 24th January 2025; A briefing session of the Pakistan - Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) held today, Friday, 24th January, 2025, in the Parliament House, Islamabad. The session featured the comprehensive briefing by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore, H.E. Ms. Rabia Shafiq and senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce.
 
The briefing session was chaired by Mr. Muhammad Mobeen Arif, MNA/Convener of the Pakistan – Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group. The briefing was attended by MNAs, Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Chattha, Mr. Usama Ahmed Mela, Mr. Muhammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Behan and  Syed Shah Ahad Ali Shah.
 
A detailed briefing was presented by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore on the historical development of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore. The session provided insights into the recent developments, key milestones, and interactions shaping the relationship between the two nations.
 
The Ministry of Commerce provided a comprehensive overview of the trade dynamics between Pakistan and Singapore, highlighting current economic engagement, challenges, and opportunities for expansion in bilateral trade.
 
The meeting also examined the regional and global context of Pakistan-Singapore relations, particularly within the framework of ASEAN and the Commonwealth of Nations, exploring the evolving role of both countries in international diplomacy.
 
Key historical milestones in Pakistan-Singapore relations were highlighted, with a particular focus on high-level engagements, agreements, and collaborative initiatives that have defined the partnership over the years.
 
 A review of existing diplomatic and trade agreements was identified in various sectors having significant potential for increased cooperation, including opportunities for trade expansion and investment.
 
Members of the Pakistan – Singapore PFG explored the potential future avenues for collaboration, focusing on innovation, renewable energy, IT services, and digital transformation as key sectors for growth and shared development.
 
Mr. Muhammad Mobeen Arif, MNA/Convener of the Pakistan – Singapore PFG mentioned that the briefing session aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the Pakistan-Singapore partnership and to explore untapped opportunities for mutual growth and cooperation. It provided a platform for parliamentarians and stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue, paving the way for strengthened ties between the two nations.
 
The meeting concluded with a roadmap for future engagements, setting out concrete next steps and action plans aimed at deepening the bilateral relationship and maximizing the potential for collaboration between Pakistan and Singapore.
