Islamabad, 19th September, 2019; 8th meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior was held today under the Chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA in Committee Room No. 7 Parliament House, Islamabad.

2. The meeting commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Committee discussed the Bill “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and recommended that the Bill may be passed by the Assembly. The Committee deferred four Bills for consideration in the next meeting.

3. The Mayor Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) briefed about shortage of water in Sector I-10. He informed that supply of water is affected due to scheduled/un-scheduled load shedding: electric and mechanical fault at tube wells and leakages in water supply lines. It was pointed out that farm houses have also been provided connections from the drinking water supply lines. The Committee recommended that 24 connections provided to form houses may be disconnected immediately. The MCI assured that the faulty tube wells will be rectified within one week.

4. The Mayor briefed the Committee about sanitation services in Rural Areas of Islamabad. The sanitation services in Rural Areas were not provided before establishment of MCI and it was under control of ICT Administration. Sanitation directorate started provision of services partially in rural areas. He informed that performance of MCI was badly affected due to legal and financial issues faced by it. The Committee noted with great concern that the public is suffering due to differences between MCI and CDA, so, the Committee directed the Ministry of Interior to resolve disputes between CDA and MCI.

5. Honorable Members/MNAs/Movers Mr. Sher Akbar Khan, Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Malik Sohail Khan, Syed Iftikhar Ul Hassan, Mr. Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Mr. Nadeem Abbas, Ms. Marriyum Aurangzaeb, Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, Mr. Ali Nawaz Awan, Ms. Kishwar Zehra, Ms. Mehnaz Aziz Akbar and the senior officers from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and Justice, ICT Police and Mayor (MCI) attended the meeting.
