3rd meeting of the Standing Committee on Defence Production of the National Assembly was held today i.e. 21st March, 2019 in the Auditorium of Heavy Industries Taxila under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Iftekhar Nazir, MNA.

2.         Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) briefed the Committee about the role of HIT for strengthening the Pakistan Armed Forces and Law enforcement agencies by providing heavy equipments i.e. tanks, armed personal’s careers, bullet proof jackets etc. The Committee appreciated the efforts made by the HIT management in this regard.

3.         The Committee also witnessed the products at display hall of HIT, the chairman informed that HIT was working for new manufacturing, re-building and upgrading of defence related equipments. He added that they have saved huge amount of exchequer (foreign exchange) by making different products within the country for Pakistan Armed Forces.

4.         The Committee discussed the Heavy Industries Taxila Board Act, 1997 (XII of 1997). The Chairman HIT, apprised the Committee that HIT board was not supported under government rules and regulations with corporate requirements, the proposed legislation would be a positive step for the betterment’s of the institution as well as local defence Industry. He further explained, if this potential was tapped to its optimum, sufficient revenue can be generated to subsidize ever increasing demand of funds for the support of Army projects. After thread bear discussion, the Committee unanimously recommended that the said Bill may be passed by the National Assembly.

5.         The meeting was attended by MNAs, Prince Muhammad Nawaz Allai, Mr. Niaz Ahmed Jakhar, Ms. Sajida Begum, Mr. Salahhuddin, Ms. Saira Bano, Chaudhry Abid Raza, Ch. Mehmood Bashir Virk, Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Mr. Nadeem Abbas, Syed Abrar Ali Shah and Mr. Irfan Ali Leghari besides the senior officers of Heavy Industries Taxila.
