Establishment of Damage and Loss Fund in COP27 reflective of successful Parliamentary and Foreign Diplomacy says NA Speaker

NA Speaker & Deputy Speaker extend  felicitation to Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Federal  Minister for climate change for their successful climate diplomacy

Islamabad: 20th November  2022: Speaker National Assembly  Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the establishment of a damage and Loss fund in COP27  is the first appropriate step to mitigate the devastating impacts of global climate change in developing countries. He said, "this Fund would support developing nations in tackling climate disasters." While recognizing the successful Parliamentary and foreign diplomacy of Pakistan for climate justice, he said the establishment of the damage and Loss Fund in COP27 Egypt justifies Pakistan's stance on climate justice and supporting developing countries.

It is pertinent to mention that it was the National Assembly of Pakistan that first moved the resolution for the creation of the "Global Climate Fund" at the IPU General Assembly Session held in Rwanda recently.

This resolution was titled “Creating a Global Fund/Financing facility for climate vulnerable Countries to Address Loss and Damage Associated with Climate Change"

It is  also appropriate to mention that the Parliamentary delegation led by Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf  also vehemently  put forth the case of Pakistan while attending the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Canada in August 2022

Furthermore, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf remained at the forefront to sensitize the Parliaments of Asia Pacific regarding the devastation on the occasion of the 3rd IPU Regional Seminar for the Asia Pacific Region Parliaments on Sustainable Development Goals held successfully in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Zahid Akram Durrani applauded the efforts of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Federal  Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Federal Minister for Climate Change for their successful parliamentary diplomacy. They equated this as the first right step on behalf of the global community to mitigate the disaster impacts of climate change, especially in developing countries.
