The Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, in a meeting held today in the Parliament House, Islamabad, has unanimously elected Ms. Saira Bano, MNA, as its Chairperson.

The Joint Secretary (Committees & PCs), National Assembly Secretariat, on behalf of the worthy Secretary, welcomed the honorable members and briefed them about the procedure for elections.

The Hon. Chief Whip asked the members of the Committee to nominate their candidates. Ms. Aliya Hamza Malik, MNA/Member, proposed the name of Ms. Saira Bano, MNA, as the candidate for Chairperson of the Committee while Mr. Lal Chand, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, and Mr. Sajid Khan, MNAS/Members seconded their candidature. No other member nominated his candidate. Thus, Ms. Saira Bano, MNA, was elected as unopposed and unanimous Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division.

The Hon. Chief Whip and all the members of the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division felicitated Ms. Saira Bano, MNA, on her election as Chairperson and hoped that the Standing Committee, being one of the most important Committee of the National Assembly, will work effectively under the dynamic leadership of the newly elected Chairperson.

The Joint Secretary (Committees & PCs), congratulated the newly elected Chairperson on behalf of the Honorable Speaker, Secretary National Assembly and assured her full support from the Secretariat for effective and efficient functioning of the Committee.

The Chairperson elect expressed her gratitude to the members for posing confidence in her and assured them to run the business of the Committee with consensus. The members while appreciating views of the honorable Chairperson assured her their fullest support in the process of parliamentary oversight.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Mr. Sajid Khan, Mr. Lal Chand, Malik Fakhar Zaman, Malik Umer Aslam Khan, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Ms. Aliya Hamza Malik, Ms. Saima Nadeem, Ms. Nuzhat Pathan, Mrs. Farukh Khan, Malik Sohail Khan, Choudhary Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, Syed Abrar Ali Shah, and Syed Mehmood Shah.
