NA Standing Committee on Law & Justice meets today

Islamabad, 19th September, 2021; 58th meeting of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice was held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Riaz Fatyana, MNA at 02:00 P.M. in Committee Room No. 7, (4th Floor), Parliament House, Islamabad.
The meeting started with recitation from the Holy Quran then, the Committee decided to proceed with the agenda. The Committee unanimously confirmed the Minutes of previous meeting held on 8th and 9th September 2021, and deferred the agenda No.2 till its next meeting.
The Committee considered the Bill, The Protection of Parents Bill, 2021 (Ordinance No. XII) of 2021 (Government Bill), after detail discussion the committee that the Bill may be passed by the Assembly with amendment.
The Committee did not consider the Bill, The Central Law Officers (Amendment) Bill, 2021 by Riaz Fatyana, MNA; and deferred the same till next meeting.
The Committee considered the Bill, The Constitution (Amendment) Bill,2021 (Article 11 and 25A) moved by Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, after detail discussion the Committee recommended that the Bill may not be passed by the Assembly.
The Committee did not consider the Bill, The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Insertion of Article 11-A) Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, MNA and deferred the same till next meeting.
The Committee considered the Bills, The Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 5 and schedule), Ms. Nafisa Shah, MNA; The Legal Practitioners and Bar Council (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 5), Mr. Sher Akbar Khan, MNA; after detailed discussion the Committee deferred the same with recommendation to the Pakistan Bar Council to reconsider the issue along with all the Provincial Bar Councils to devise a long-term formula for regarding enhancement of the seats of Bar Councils. It was also recommended that the Pakistan Bar Council shall also propose the solution for enhancement of tenure of Bar associations from one year to two years. It was also recommended that Pakistan Bar council shall also submit its proposals before the committee regarding judicial reforms especially with regard to recruitment of judges as well as for the consolidation of laws in Pakistan.
The Committee considered the Bills, The Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Section 5) Mr. Mohsin Dawar, MNA. During deliberations Pakistan Bar Council supported the Bill to the extent of enhancement of one seat. After detailed deliberations the Committee recommended the Bill may be passed with amendments as suggested by the Pakistan Bar Council. The Committee extended thanks to representatives various Bar Councils and Bar Associations for attended the meeting.

Mehmood Bashir Virk, Usman Ibraheem, Mr. Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Mr. Qadir Khan Mandokhail, Ms. Aliya Kamran, Mr.Sher Akbar Khan, Mr. Mohsin Dawar, Minister for Law and Justice, the Secretary Ministry of Law and Justice, Mr. Faheem Ali Chairman Executive Committee Pakistan Bar Council, Salah Ud Din Ahamed President Sindh High Court Bar, Naeem Uddin Vice Chairman K.P Bar Council, Mr. Zahid Mahmood Raja President Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan President High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi, Mr. Farooq Khokhar Member Punjab Bar Council, Zulfiqar Ali Abbasi Vice Chairman Islamabad Bar Council, along with their staff attended the meeting.
