NA Standing Committee on Interior meets

Islamabad, 7th April, 2021; 34th meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior was held today under the Chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA, in the Committee Room of NADRA Headquarters, Islamabad.

The meeting commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Bill titled “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 500 A) (moved by Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, MNA)” was considered by the Committee, after detailed discussion the Committee recommended that the bill may be passed by the National Assembly. The National Database and Registration Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2020" (Moved by Mr. Muhammad Akhter Mengal, MNA), was deferred till the next meeting. The two Bills (moved Moulana Abdul Akber Chitrali, MNA) titled “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 298) and “The National Database and Registration Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 35) were deferred till the next meeting, as requested to the Committee by the mover.

The Bill titled “The Islamabad Rent Restriction (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 11) (moved by Ms. Nusrat Wahid)” was deferred as the mover did not attend the meeting. The Bill titled “The Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Section 375) (moved by Ms. Shazia Marri)” was deferred as the mover did not attend the meeting. The point of order raised by Sahibzada Sibghatullah, regarding killing of laborers of Swat and Dir by terrorists was considered by the Committee. The Committee recommended that compensation may be granted to the victim families, and also desired report from the Balochistan Government in next meeting.

The Committee was briefed by ICT Police about the steps taken by Police to control illicit drugs especially Ice. The Committee showed serious concerns over vide-spread use of Ice in universities, colleges and schools. In this connection the Committee decided to hold a separate meeting with all stake holders including Ministry of Industries, Pakistan Customs, M/o Narcotics, ICT Police and Chief Secretaries & IGs of all provinces. Difficulties faced by public in getting Electricity connections in rural Islamabad were discussed. The Committee directed CDA and IESCO to immediately provide electricity connections to people in rural Islamabad, as also directed by the Islamabad High Court.

Honorable Members/MNAs/Movers Mr. Sher Akbar Khan, Mr. Rahat Aman Ullah Bhatti, Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Mr. Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Mr. Nadeem Abbas, Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Syed Agha Rafiullah, Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, Sahibzada Sibghatullah and the senior officers from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and Justice, ICT Police, Passport and Immigration, NADRA, Federal Investigation Authority, Capital Development Authority attended the meeting.
