Parliamentary Committee on CPEC visit to HQ COMWEST

Friday, 19th March, 2021
Parliamentary Committee on CPEC headed by Chairman Mr Sher Ali Arbab visited HQ COMWEST, Gwadar on 19 March 2021. During the visit, Commander West, Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed  apprised the Parliamentarians about Pakistan Navy's Concept of Seaward Security with special emphasis on various initiatives undertaken by Pakistan Navy for security of Gwadar port since 2015. Parliamentarians were informed that Pakistan Navy established a Coastal Security and Harbour Defence Force entrusted with coastal security along Pakistan coast. Moreover, the significance of CPEC Maritime Security Task Force 88 mandated with security of Gwadar port was also discussed. The Committee acknowledged that economic prosperity of any nation is directly linked to the prevailing security environment, and expressed satisfaction over seaward security.
Hon. Chairman remarked that local ownership of CPEC projects is highly indispensable for yielding desired results of projects under CPEC framework. It is therefore undeniably important to assuage the apprehensions of local people arising out of measures taken for the security of CPEC. Inclusive approach should be pursued to accommodate local people and address their grievances rather than causing relocations of local people at the behest of CPEC security.  CPEC is aimed at bringing local people into main stream by bringing prosperity and elevating life standards of local people instead of alienating them. Committee also appreciated the socio-economic initiatives undertaken by Pakistan Navy for provision of education and health facilities alongwith distribution of basic amenities to local populace. Briefing was also attended by MNAs Mr Sadaqat Ali Abbasi, Mr Noor Alam Khan, Mr Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Mr Zahid Akram Durrani and Mr Muhammad Aslam Bhootani.
