Constitutional amendments imperative for Making GB interim province : NA Speaker

Transparency and Fairness in senate elections necessary  to  revive people trust on parliament : NA Speaker

Islamabad: 15th March 2021 Speaker National Assembly  Asad Qaiser has said that transparency and fairness in elections especially  in Senate elections would revive public trust on the electoral process and their representatives. He remarked that  consensus of both government  and opposition  benches is imperative  for bringing electoral reforms.

He expressed these views while meeting with Mr. Zaheer -ud-Din Babar Awan Advisor to PM on Parliamentary Affairs today in Islamabad.

Formation of Parliamentary Committee to bring constitutional and electoral reforms came under discussion. It was agreed that equal representation would be given to both opposition and Government members for their input for electoral reforms. This committee would  also give input about bringing  constitutional amendment to give Gilgit Baltistan,  status of an interim province keeping in view the aspirations  of GB public Representatives.

Dr. Babar Awan advisor to PM on Parliamentary affairs said that electoral reforms and Making GB an interim  province as per the vision of Imran Khan Prime Minister would strengthen  democratic  norms . He also proposed that parliamentary committee would be Chaired by Speaker Asad Qaiser and this committee would  deliberate upon pending  electoral reform bill and making GB an interim province.
