Meeting of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology
Monday, 23rd December, 2019

Islamabad the, 23rd December, 2019: Meeting of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology was held on 23rd December, 2019 at 2:00  p.m in Committee Room of PCSIR Ministry of Science and Technology, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sajid Mehdi, MNA. The meeting of the committee commenced with the recitation of holy Quran.

The Committee unanimously approved the minutes of its meeting held on 21st & 22nd  November, 2019. The members have shown their reservation on the reply of the ministry against the last direction of the committee. However, the Secretary M/0 Science and Technology assured that the same will be furnished during the next meeting.

The Agenda item (iii), (iv) and (v) pertaining to the legislation business was deferred as the representative of  M/O Law and Justice unable to furnish its report to the committee after consultation with the mover Syed Fakhar Imam MNA. The Committee advised the representative of M/O Law and Justice to furnish its comments in writing before the next meeting.

Dr.Smina Qidwai, Senior Research Officer, National Institute of Oceanology explained the need of study of oceanography in almost all the universities of the country as a subject for which the efforts are required at the level of this committee for future research in the new field. The committee ensured its best cooperation subject to provide the detail working paper in consultation with the ministry in the upcoming meeting of the committee and the Secretary was asked to proceed in the matter.

Director Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) briefed the Committee though lengthy presentation about the function and achievements. During the briefing, Director PSF informed that they are working with their utmost effort within the meager funds as compare to other similarly foundation in the World. He further, informed that PSF providing the funs to the research based societies, Organizations/Institute, Scientists and talented students though different programs. PSF also provide the mobile science laboratory for the exposures of students of the schools in the country where the science laboratories are not available. Further, due to such activities of PSF, many research institutes in the country are engaged to develop the seed, machineries, medicines, alloys for dental etc 

The meeting was attended by Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai, Mr. Abdul Shakoor Shad, Ms. Sobia Kamal Khan,, Ms. Zaib Jaffar,  Noor Alam Khan, Ch Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Naveed Aamer Jeeva, Dr samina Matloob,MNA’s besides the senior officers from the Ministry of Science and Technology and also attended the meeting. The Meeting was ended with the votes of thanks.
