National Assembly Standing Committee was Briefed that in Urban Areas of the Country, 80% Drinking Water in Sindh & Balochistan and 100% in Gilgit is Contaminated and Unsafe

The Committee was informed that all companies in the Country provide just bottled water whereas the only Qarshi Company which provides the mineral water. The meeting of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology was held today at Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), H/8-1, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sajid Mehdi, MNA.
 
The Chairman PCRWR briefed the Committee that budget for research in PCRWR has not been given for the last two years. He further stated that its laboratories in all over the Country will be functional soon which were dormant since 2015.
 
Ch. Fawad Hussain, Federal Minister for Science & Technology informed that research data is essential to make more informed policies and standards that is only possible if research laboratories are well equipped and human resource is well trained.
 
The Committee was further briefed that government of Punjab spent Rs.88 crore during last five years to provide safe drinking water but failed due to improper planning. The Committee recommended that steps should be taken creating liaison amongst provinces and Federation.
 
The following MNAs, Engr. Usman Khan Tarakai, Mr. shoukat Ali Bhatti, Mr. Abdul Shakoor Shad, Ms. Sobia Kamal Khan, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed Malik, Ch. Muhammad Ashraf, Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Dr. Samina Matloob, Mr. Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Mr. Sikandar Ali Rahoupoto and Mr. Naveed Aamir Jeeva besides the officials of the Ministry attended the meeting.
