In-ordinate delay in completion of the 104 family suites and 500 servants quarters in Parliament Lodges irked the NA Committee on House and Library

Islamabad May 20th, 2019 Qaism Khan Suri Deputy Speaker National Assembly said that the security, services, and infrastructure completion of the parliament lodges should follow the principles of austerity and keeping in view the maximum value for public money. He said that the money allocated in the budget for Parliament Lodges belong to the nation and it must be utilized according to principles of public financial management. He expressed these views while chairing the meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on the House and Library which met here on Monday.

The committee expressed reservation and deep concerns over the delay of construction of 104 additional family suites at Parliament Lodges and also directed the Chairman CDA to prepare the plan for early completion of the project. The Deputy Speaker said that parliamentarians are facing acute issues in accommodation and directed the Chairman CDA to take steps for executing this project as early as possible. He also remarked that arbitration decision in the matter of construction of this project against CDA indicates the non-professionalism and negligence on the part of CDA.

The committee members indicated the loopholes in the services, security and resolution of their complaints. They expressed their concern that irrelevant persons are roaming in the lodges which is a security threat and suggested that the entry of visitors should be managed systematically. The Deputy Speaker directed the concerned CDA Staff to be professional in their duties to facilitate the respectable parliamentarians and to ensure the strict security measures. The committee members appreciated the concerns and efforts of the Chair for resolution of the issues related with parliament lodges. The Deputy Speaker exerted that there must be no compromise on the quality of the maintenance work which is being carried out in parliament lodges. He also ordered to make arrangements immediately for the cleanliness of the car parking area of the Parliament House. .He also directed to make arrangements for opening Tuck Shop in the premises of the Parliament lodges.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Mr. Muhammad Alamghir Khan, Mr. Wajiha Akram, Ms. Aliya Kamran, Ms. Munawara Bibi Baloch, Ms. Kishwar Zahra, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Ms. Mussarat Rafique Mahesar, Ms. Nasiba Channa and senior officers of National Assembly Secretariat, Ministry of Interior and CDA.
