Meeting of the Standing Committee on Communications meets

Multan(                       ) A meeting of the Standing Committee on Communications was held on 5th April 2018 in Regional Office of National Highway Authority (NHA), Multan. The meeting was presided over by honorable Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil, MNA. The NHA authorities briefed the Committee on Pindi Bhatian – Multan Motorway (M-4) in detail. The authorities informed that the project of M4 had been divided in four parts. Two parts will be completed in next month whereas M4 will be open for traffic by 31st August 2018.

The Standing Committee was also briefed on Multan – Sukkar Motorway (M5) and informed that the project would be completed timely and its some portion would be opened for traffic by the next month. Moreover, the member of the Committee showed their displeasure on the absence of the Chairman NHA and the Minister for Communications from the meeting. The Committee directed them to attend the next meeting of the Committee. The Standing Committee was also briefed, in detail, on tree plantation on M3 and M4 and informed that the department has allotted land for nursery. The Committee was informed that 40,000 trees would be planted. Moreover, proper plantation of fruit trees and flower plants will also take place, for the first time. The Committee directed that big factories, on the National Highways might be bound for plantation in their area. Similarly, they should open their dispensaries for general public. So that the mortality rate on the highways due to road accidents could be reduced. The Standing Committee constituted a Sub-Committee on this issue. The Sub-Committee will monitor the project and will seek briefing from the authorities. The Standing Committee recommended that the issue of deprivations of Multan and South Punjab should be addressed in letter and Spirit. Moreover, there should be share of this area in CPEC too.
 
The meeting was presided over by honorable Engr. Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil, MNA and attended by Members National Assembly Mr. Salim Rehman, Sardar Jaffar Laghari, Ch. Khalid Javed Warraich, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Shah, Ms. Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio and Molana Qamar-ud-Din. Moreover, Secretary Communications and several senior civil officers attended the meeting.
