S.C. on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination meets

Islamabad, 5th April, 2018; 38nd meeting of the Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination was held today under the Chairmanship of Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Khan Darishak, MNA.
 
2. The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 28-02-2018.
 
3. “The Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health (Amendment) Bill, 2017” moved by Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, MNA was withdrawn by the Mover on the recommendation of the Committee as the recent SRO issued by the Ministry has served the same purpose for which the said Bill was moved in the National Assembly. Whereas, the Committee deferred “The HIV/AIDS (Safety and Control) Bill, 2013” moved by Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuhu, MNA; till its next meeting as mover of the bill was not present in the meeting.
 
4. The Committee while receiving the briefing from Registrar of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council recommended that we are pending this briefing for next meeting so that any higher authority should represent the institute and may give briefing on election of chairman,  sub-standard medical education is being imparted in the colleges controlled under PMDC, uniformity in fees are being ensured or not and should brief the committee about status of rules; whether they are being followed in running the PMDC properly or not. All above issues will be included in the next meeting’s agenda items.
 
5. The Committee took the briefing on performance of National Council for Tibb and the Committee showed satisfaction on the progress of Council. Further Committee recommended that Capital Development Authority (CDA) should take measures to allot land to the Council for constructing the head office in Islamabad.
 
6. In the last, the Committee paid visit to the National Institute of Health (NIH) whereby the briefing was given by Executive Director, NIH on its working, performance and ongoing projects. The Committee appreciated the progress of NIH and encouraged the institute for its future endeavors.
 
7. Hon. Members, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Ms. Shakila Khalid Luqman,      MS. Zehra Wadood Fatemi, Col. (Retd.) Dr. Amirullah Marwat, Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan (Member/Mover) and Mr. Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan attended the meeting besides the senior officers from the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, National Council for Tibb and National Institute of Health.
