A meeting of the Standing Committee on Industries and Production was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Asad Umar, MNA in Parliament House and discuss the following issues:

i.                    Briefing regarding PC-1for expansion of Agro Food Processing Company by Managing Director, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) as decided in the last meeting dated 29-12-2018.

ii.                  Progress report on the letter of Chairman, Standing Committee dated 18-12-2017, regarding investigation of Management/Defalcation in Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Karachi by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to fix the responsibility of losses to the country.

iii.                Discussion on the issue of Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC). To call the representatives of All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (APMIA), Pakistan Machine Tools Factory (PMTF), and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) as decided in the meeting of the Committee held on 23rd November, 2017.

iv.                Briefing on the performance of Utility Store Corporation (USC) and grievances of its employees by Managing Director, USC.

v.                  Briefing on the future plans of National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (NFML) by Managing Director, NFML.

vi.                Report of the Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Industries & Production under the Convenership of Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, MNA to further look into the matter pertaining to close down of Engineering Development Board (EDB) and to make suggestions thereof for improving/restructuring of the EDB.

The Committee recommended that Government should provide once time all payments to pay off the retired employees’ liabilities of the Pakistan Steel Mills. The Committee also suggested to include in the PSDP 2018-19, the issue of PC-1for expansion of Agro Food Processing Company by Managing Director, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA).

The Committee directed to the Ministry of Industries & Production to submit the report within 3 months regarding investigation of Management/Defalcation in Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Karachi by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to fix the responsibility of losses to the country.

The Committee also suggested to hold / organize a meeting by the representatives of All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (APMIA), Pakistan Machine Tools Factory (PMTF), and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), regarding financial banking rules.

The Committee further directed to the Managing Director Utility Store Corporation USC to submit the report regarding the 3649 daily wages employees update and subsidy requirement for the USC.

Later on, the Committee directed to the Managing Director of National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (NFML) to provide the list of Managing Directors for the period of last 10 years including the details of price control about urea.
