National Assembly Standing Committee On Inter Provincial Coordination Meets Today

Islamabad the 24th November, 2017. A meeting of the Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination held today in the Committee Room No.7, Parliament House, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan, MNA, for comprehensive briefing on Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC)  and National Internship Programme (NIP) etc. 

2. The President, Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) briefed the Committee about the aims and objectives of the PVMC in detail. He upraised the Committee that PVMC has been established in 1999 under the PVMC Act with the mandate to regulate the registration, practice and conduct of the Veterinarians and to establish a uniform standard of basic and higher qualification in veterinary Medicine and Surgery/Animal Husbandry in the country. PVMC Secretariat is located in Islamabad and the Council comprises of 18 Members nominated by Federal and Provincial Governments, Pak Army, Regional PVMAs and accredited universities while its President and Vice President are elected by Members from amongst themselves for tenure of 04 years. Members are not the employees of the Council, they worked on voluntary basis. He further apprised the Committee about the procedure adopted for accreditation of the institutions. If minimum essential requirements are verified the institutions are awarded accreditation otherwise they are given time to meet the laid down minimum standard and these institutions are re-visited after 03 years to ensure their standards. 
 
3. The Committee recommended that the PVMC Executive Committee Members should have a minimum post graduate degree along-with 15 years experience, moreover HEC should allocate minimum of 100 Ph.D scholarships to address the shortage of faculty in Veterinary Sciences. The Committee further recommended that the professional bodies like PVMC etc. should be headed by professionals on the recommendations of the Search Committee. The Committee also recommended that the Government should impose the maximum import duty on dry milk to flourish the Livestock Industry of the Country. 

4.  The Director General, National Internship Programme briefed the Committee that the total number of interns completing their one year internship upto 31st October, 2017 is 29,164 and amount of Rs.3.57 billion were paid as stipends to the interns completing their one year internship. An in house exercise was conducted by the NIP to ascertain the employment status from the 29,164 graduated interns. All of them were contacted through email out of which 9,057has responded and 1,666 interns have got employment in various organizations.

5.  The Meeting was attended by Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan, Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi, Mr. Saeed Ahmed Khan Manais,  Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan,  Begum Tahira Bukhari, Ms. Sabiha Nazir, Dr. Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto, Mr. Siraj Muhammad Khan, Mr. Mujahid Ali, Engineer Muhammad Usman Badiani and Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani MNAs, Officer of the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination, President, Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) and DG, National Internship Programme (NIP).
