Karachi, the 19th October, 2017:The meeting of the Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research was held today at 10:30 a.m. in the office of Department of Plant Protection, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Halt, Karachi under the Chairmanship of Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, MNA.
 
2. The Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research briefed the Committee about the performance of the Ministry and its attached Department. The Committee was also briefed about the following Bill:-
    a. “National Food Safety, Animal and plant Health Regulatory Authority Bill, 2017
            After detail deliberation on the Bill, the Committee decided to defer the Bill on the request of Ministry.
3.  The Committee was briefed about the implementation of recommendations which were made in its meeting held on 20th and 21st February, 2017. The Committee was satisfied on Ministry’s performance regarding implementation of recommendations. The Committee also emphasizes to take quick actions on their recommendations.
4.  Director General, Department of Plant Protection also briefed the Committee about the Performance of “Department of Plant Protection”. It was informed that Department is working on the Registration of  Pesticide and its Regulations, Plant Quarantine, Aerial Wing, Locust Survey Control & Standardization and Import of Pesticides. 
 
5. Chaudhary Nazeer Ahmad, Choudhary Iftikhar Nazir, Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Ms. Parveen Masood Bhatti,Pir Shafqat Hussain Jilani, Faqir Sher Muhammad Bilalani and Dr.Fouzia Hameed, MNAs attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and its attached departments.
