Islamabad, 19th July, 2017; 36th meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control was held today under the Acting Chairpersonship of Ms. Naeema Kishwer Khan, MNA.

2.      The meeting started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Then, the Committee decided to proceed with the agenda.

3.      The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 12-05-2017.

4.       The Committee considered the Bills on “The Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2017” (Insertion of new sections 167-A & 344-A, Act XLV of 1860) (Moved by Mr. Sajid Ahmed, MNA), “The Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2017” (Amendment of sections 11, 13, 27, 67, 82, 89, 91, 95, 96, 97, 98, 115 & 117 Act X of 2015) (Moved by Mr. Asad Umar, MNA), “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2017” (Amendment of section 173, Act V of 1898) (Moved by Mr. S.A. Iqbal Quadri, MNA), “The Islamabad Capital Territory Prohibition of Employment of Children Bill, 2017” (Moved by Ms. Shazia Marri, MNA), “The Religious Scholars, Ulema and Pesh Imams (Prayer Leaders) Welfare Bill, 2017 (Moved by Ms. Kishwer Zehra, MNA) “The Compulsory Solid Waste Management and Recycling Bill, 2017” (Moved by Major ® Tahir Iqbal, MNA) and “The Compulsory Sewage Water Management and Reprocessing Bill, 2017” (Moved by Major ® Tahir Iqbal, MNA) and decided that all above said Bills be deferred till its next Committee meeting. The Committee considered and approved the request of Ms. Shazia Marri, MNA for his inability to attend the meeting due to her personal reasons.     

5.      The Committee considered the Bills on “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2017” (Amendment of schedule II, Act V of 1898) (Moved by Ms. Shakila Luqman, MNA) and “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2017” (Insertion of new section 364-B, Act XLV of 1860) and Amendment of schedule-II (Act V of 1898) (Moved by Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, MNA) and decided that both bills may not be approved for further legislation.

6.      The Committee considered the Bill on “The National Centre for Countering Violent Extremism Bill, 2017 (Moved by Ms. Romina Khursheed Alam, MNA) and decided that the Bill may be referred to the Standing Committee on Defence through Hon. Speaker’s, office after adopting due process of law.

7.        The Hon. Members/MNAs/Mover Syed Javed Ali Shah, Mr. Ghalib Khan, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Mr. Nauman Islam Shaikh, Dr. Arif Alvi, Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Mr. Salman Khan Baloch, Mr. Sher Akbar Khan, Mr. Sajid Ahmed, Mr. Asad Umar, Ms. Romina Khursheed Alam, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi and Ms. Kishwer Zehra were attended the meeting besides the senior officers from the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, I.C.T, Mayor, Islamabad, Ministry of Religious Affairs & Inter-Faith Harmony, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resources Development, Ministry of (CADD) and Ministry of Law and Justice with their staff.
