NA Standing Committee on Human Rights Meets
Thursday, 13th July, 2017

Islamabad, the 13th July, 2017. 29th meeting of the Standing Committee on M/o Human Rights met today at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room No. 07, Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Babar Nawaz Khan, MNA.

The meeting commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Committee discussed the following agenda:

ii)                  Briefing on implementation status of Action Plan for Human

Briefing was given by the Director General, M/o Human Rights on the above subject in detail. He apprised the Committee that the Hon’able Prime-Minister, Islamic Republic of Pakistan approved the Action Plan for Human Rights on 13th February, 2016. In pursuance of its implementation, the Prime-Minister has constituted a National Task Force(NTF) under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Human Rights, comprising of federal ministries, provincial departments and members of parliament for prompt implementation of Action Plan to improve human rights situation in Pakistan in May, 2016. He added that two meetings of National Task Force have been held on 27th September, 2016 and 10th May, 2017. Provincial Task Forces have also been constituted in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and AJK to review and monitor the implementation of the Action Plan at provincial level.

The Hon’able Chairman, Standing Committee apprised the Committee that they have already visited Lahore. Now the Committee may visit to Peshawer and Mardan to check the jails position and talk to Chief Minister and Minister for Human Rights therein. He added that Committee Members will visit all the Chief Ministers of five provinces with reference to Task Force to resolve the issues of human rights.

Director General M/o Human Rights also mentioned that they have established Help Line for free of cost legal advice to the human rights violation cases and referral for redressal. He added that total calls received 74098 and legal advice as also provided to 2644 victims, etc.  He also added that implementation cell is also being prepared by the Ministry to resolve all the work of human rights. 

Asiya Naz Tanoli, MNA apprised the Committee that many vulgar and based on immorality programs like Chuingum Drama, Cartoon, Kala Jadoo and Naagan aur spaera programs are being shown in different media channels should be stopped by PEMRA which air to human violation in the society.

The meeting was attended by Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub, Sayed Essa Nori, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Ms. Farhana Qamar, Ms. Phyllis Azeem, Ms. Kiran Haider, Ms. Asiya Naz Tanoli, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Ms. Amra Khan, Dr. Shazia Sobia, Ms. Musarat Rafique Mahesar, Mr. Sajid Nawaz, Mr. Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Ms. Kishwer Zehra,  Ms. Aliya Kamran Murtaza, MNAs and senior officers from the Ministry of Human Rights and its attached department.
