Islamabad, the 13th June, 2017: The Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development met today under the acting Chairmanship of Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, MNA, to consider “the Children (Pledging of Labour) (Amendment) Bill, 2017,”  “the Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2017” and briefing/discussion on role of Parliamentarians in Board of Governors (BOG) of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) and Workers Welfare Fund (WWF).

2. The Committee deferred “the Children (Pledging of Labour) (Amendment) Bill, 2017” moved by Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, MNA due to her absence. The representative of M/o Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development however informed the Committee that the subject Bill relates to M/o Interior. The Committee decided to invite Secretary, Interior in the next meeting to discuss the subject matter.

3. The Committee also discussed “the Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2017” moved by Dr. Shazia Sobia, MNA in detail and deferred due to the absence of Mover.

4. The Managing Director (OPF) informed the Committee that after the promulgation of Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013, in pursuance of Rule 3(7) of the said Rules, appointment of honourable members of the Parliament has been discontinued, now, by the Government.

5. The Committee constituted a Sub-Committee under the Chairmanship of Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan to examine the legal status of OPF with reference to his creation under Immigration Ordinance 1979.

MNAs, Ch. Abid Raza, Ms. Sabiha Nazir, Ms. Aisha, Chaudhry Muhammad Munir Azhar and Syed Sajid Mehdi attended the meeting, besides officials of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and M/o Law and Justice.
