Karachi, the 20th February, 2017:   The meeting of the Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research was held today at 10:30 a.m. in the office of Department of Plant Protection, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Halt, Karachi under the Chairmanship of Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, MNA.

2.         The Committee was given briefing on the working and functioning of “Department of Plant Protection”. It was informed that the main function of the department is to Register Pesticide and its Regulations, Plant Quarantine, Aerial Wing, Locust Survey Control & Standardization and Import of Pesticides. 

3.         The Committee was briefed that Southern Zone Agricultural Research Centre, Karachi is working on the cultivation of crops using latest technology to increase the production of crops per acre in region. The Committee directed the Ministry to streamline all the pending matters of both departments.

4.         After detail deliberation the Committee endorsed the budgetary proposals of the Ministry relating to Public Sector Development Program for the financial year, 2017-18.

5.         Chaudhary Nazeer Ahmad, Choudhary Iftikhar Nazir, Tahir Iqbal Ch., Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Ms. Shahnaz Saleem, Ms. Parveen Masood Bhatti and Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch MNAs attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and its attached departments.
